What is HAYA?

Holly Area Youth Assistance is a community-based prevention organization. HAYA was developed by volunteers who live and/or work in the greater Holly Area School District community.

HAYA is a valuable and effective service to the youths and families it serves. Giving support to youths (and their families) in various situations enriches them and the community.

Tena Alvarado, current HAYA president stated, “It is rewarding to work with community organizations and individuals who partner with HAYA because they realize that we can accomplish a greater good when we come together.”
And it’s true, they do accomplish a lot. The efforts of HAYA and community-based support is very effective.

Holly Area Youth Assistance is a PREVENTION program. HAYA has been supporting youth and families in the Holly area since 1963.  We are a volunteer-driven, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and one of 26 Youth Assistance programs in Oakland County. Each local Youth Assistance office is tri-sponsored by the Oakland County Circuit Court-Family Division, the local school district, and the municipalities thereof. The Oakland County Board of Commissioners provides the funding for a professional caseworker in each Youth Assistance Office. The day-to-day expenses of running a YA office are funded by municipality sponsorship, HAYA fundraising, and private donations.

Holly Area Youth Assistance provides confidential, short-term, family-centered casework services and referral services for youth, 17 years of age or younger, and their families who live in Holly or attend Holly area schools. Referrals are accepted from school personnel, police, parents, and other community sources. A professional caseworker assesses the needs of each child and may provide casework services, connect families with available resources, or make appropriate referrals.

Volunteers work with the professional caseworker to plan and sponsor local parenting and prevention programs for youth and their families. These programs are designed to promote positive behaviors and strengthen family relationships in our community.
